« Deux compositeurs nés la même année dans la même région, se vouant une admiration mutuelle au-delà de la rivalité, mais qui ne se sont jamais rencontrés. Deux compositeurs rendus aveugles par le même médecin. Cette incroyable fatalité m’a donné l’envie d’imaginer une vraie rencontre entre eux, d’entendre leurs musiques de manière presque contemporaine. D’un point de vue temporel, c’était presque impossible : on joue du Bach ou on joue du Haendel. Mais grâce à ce programme, nous vivrons l’expérience d’un dialogue entre eux, comme si l’on avait demandé à chacun de composer tour à tour dans un style précis. Grâce à des solistes, chanteurs et musiciens exceptionnels, nous vivrons un véritable cours de composition qui nous fera découvrir comment chacun travaillait. »
