About the show *Le chant du sabre*
In conjunction with the performance *Le chant du sabre*, La Cité Bleue is offering an introductory workshop on aikido and bokken to extend the theatrical experience.
A Japanese martial art founded in the 20th century by Morihei Ueshiba, aikido is a path to harmony. More than a combat technique, it is an art of movement and relationship: welcoming the energy of the other, guiding it without opposing it, transforming confrontation into dialogue—qualities that resonate deeply with the show’s approach, where withdrawal is not flight but a quest for precision.
The Bokken, a wooden sword used for training, allows one to approach the handling of the traditional Japanese sword in a safe environment. It conveys the precision of movement, spatial awareness, and inner discipline characteristic of the sword arts.
An opportunity to enter, through practice, into the world of the performance and discover how martial movement can become a path to harmony.
Introductory workshop open to everyone, no prior experience required.
Bokken are provided.
Japanese green tea offered at Café Blue Note.
Kimono or comfortable clothing recommended; changing facilities available on-site starting at 10 a.m.; practice is done barefoot.
