Excerpts from the opera by Jean-Philippe Rameau
Les Indes galantes – De la voix des âmes will be among the very first performances presented at Concorde, a new performance venue in Vernier set to open its doors on September 25, 2026, and which will enrich Geneva’s cultural landscape. This performance will thus offer the public an opportunity to discover this new venue dedicated to the performing arts, destined to become a major hub for artistic creation and exchange.
For this major production, La Cité Bleue and its partners are bringing together two leading forces: Leonardo García-Alarcón at the helm of Cappella Mediterranea, and choreographer Bintou Dembélé, a key figure in contemporary choreography.
Created in 1735, Rameau’s opera-ballet celebrates the imagined encounter between distant cultures. Under the direction of Leonardo García-Alarcón, the score unfolds all its rhythmic vitality, orchestral brilliance, and harmonic refinement. Bintou Dembélé’s choreography opens up new worlds: she infuses it with contemporary movements, drawing from urban cultures and a reflection on the representation of the “other.” The stage thus becomes a space for the confrontation between Baroque heritage and contemporary styles, between tradition and modern identities.
Driven by the musical excellence of Cappella Mediterranea, the ensemble in residence at La Cité Bleue, and by a bold scenic vision, this production promises to mark the early days of this new cultural venue with brilliance.
