The 2026–2027 season at La Cité Bleue also stands out for its lineup of major artists with distinctive styles and emerging talents, coming together to create a rich artistic landscape.
At the heart of this constellation, Leonardo García-Alarcón plays a central role. As artistic director of La Cité Bleue, he imprints the season with his unique vision: a vibrant approach to the repertoire, fueled by research, intuition, and a keen sense of musical theater. At the helm of Cappella Mediterranea, he will be featured in several highlights, affirming his commitment to a dynamic Baroque style, open to influences and reinventions.
The season also welcomes some of the most striking voices on the current scene, starting with soprano Sabine Devieilhe, who explores a repertoire spanning cabaret, chanson, and musical theater in *Smile!*. Her presence embodies this ability to transcend boundaries and reveal other facets of opera.
Contemporary choreography resonates strongly with artists such as Bintou Dembélé, whose choreographic work engages with the Baroque repertoire in *Les Indes galantes – De la voix des âmes*, and Sadeck Waff, whose visual world in *Murmuration – Blue Edition* captivates us. These approaches demonstrate a desire to open the stage to other languages, where the body, movement, and image become an integral part of the musical experience.
Contemporary musical creation is embodied in particular through the project *The Show Must Go On!*, led by il Baskerville, which offers a lively and satirical reinterpretation of the opera world, blending theater and music. It serves as a reminder that the stage is also a place for observation, reflection, and play. Another creative highlight is *Il pomo d’oro*, featuring young artist-in-residence Pablo Agudo López composing music that blends Baroque and Latin American styles, inviting us to savor a work that transcends stylistic and cultural boundaries.
Major orchestras and guest ensembles also contribute to the season’s excellence. The Geneva Chamber Orchestra will perform on several occasions, as will the Arete, Modigliani, Novo, Elmire, Leonkoro, Agate, and Métamorphoses quartets—among the most acclaimed of their generation—united around the Beethoven Cycle.
La Cité Bleue also reaffirms its commitment to the new generation of artists. Ensembles in residence such as Les Impertinences and O Tempora embody this vitality: curious and daring, they explore repertoires with freshness and freedom, helping to renew our perspective on early music.
Through these artists, La Cité Bleue affirms a conviction: it is unique perspectives, embodied voices, and personal journeys that bring works to life.
