The documentary *Indes galantes* follows the creation of a new production of Jean-Philippe Rameau’s opera-ballet at the Opéra Bastille. Through rehearsals, encounters, and the artists’ work, it offers a behind-the-scenes look at a daring project that blends Baroque music and urban culture, featuring Cappella Mediterranea with Leonardo García-Alarcón, director Clément Cogitore, and choreographer Bintou Dembélé, accompanied by thirty dancers specializing in krump, breakdance, popping, and voguing.
At the heart of the film is the encounter between these performers from very different backgrounds, which gives rise to a powerful collective energy, where movement, the body, and music interact to reinvent an 18th-century work. Between artistic commitment and social resonance, the documentary explores each individual’s place on stage and in society, and shows how an opera can become a space for creation, inclusion, and transformation.
Following the screening of the documentary *Indes galantes*, a post-screening discussion with Leonardo García-Alarcón will provide an opportunity to discuss the film and its artistic approach.
